Minimum Wage And Fight Income Equality On Numerous Occasions

President Obama has expressed his desire to raise the minimum wage and fight income equality on numerous occasions. On January 20, 2015, president Obama made the following statement in his State of the Union Address: Of course, nothing helps families make ends meet like higher wages†¦and to everyone in this Congress who still refuses to raise the minimum wage, I say this: if you truly believe you could work full-time and support a family on less than $15,000 a year, go try it. If not, vote to give millions of the hardest working people in America a raise.† Ever since raising the minimum wage became a topic of conversation, it has also been a highly debated topic among Americans. To understand minimum wage we must first understand more about minimum wage. The minimum wage was put into place to stabilize the post-depression economy, and to create a minimum pay that would allow employees to make a living and support their families with. There is a federal minimum wage ($7.25 per hour), but there are also many state minimum wages. Many states have their own state minimum wage laws. Due to this, minimum wage varies from state to state. Minimum wage, as of 2015, ranges from$7.25 per hour to $11.50 per hour. If the state minimum wage falls below the federal minimum wage, employees are entitles the federal minimum wage.
